Wesleyan College Voter Information

Thanks to our local Election Heroes at Macon-Bibb Board of Elections, League of Women Voters Macon, and our local NAACP Chapter, as well as our Student Civic Engagement Ambassadors Staff, for helping our campus register to vote!

We encourage you to be aware of your legislators, from Macon-Bibb County, to Georgia to national level, and to please contact them as you have concerns. You can do more than vote to improve your quality of life if you vote “all the way down the ballot” in every election.

Most Asked Question:  Resident students, yes, you can register to vote at your Wesleyan address for the years you reside on campus. It is your choice whether to participate in Macon-Bibb elections or the ones for your district back home, so please carefully consider that option. Come to Student Affairs for more information, or visit one of our voter registration tabling events!

First, we register, and then we vote!

#MakeAPlanToVote... As simple as 1-2-3!

General Voter Information

All Georgia Voter Information is available at the Georgia My Voter Page

  • Are You Registered to Vote? You may register to vote at 17 ½ years old or later to participate in elections starting on and after your 18th birthday. Voter registration is due 30 days before most elections, with some exceptions for special elections. Voter registration must be updated after you move or change your name.

  • Voter ID: A complete explanation of all forms of voter ID.

  • Access the Georgia My Voter Page: You can check your voter registration, find your voter poll, look at a sample ballot, request an absentee ballot, and more!

  • Access Your Local Board of Elections: Get a local election calendar, look up acceptable forms of Voter ID, see a sample ballot, apply for an absentee ballot, apply to be a poll worker, and much more at the Macon-Bibb Board of Elections or the page for your municipal area.

  • Voting Absentee? You must apply in advance for an absentee ballot by email, mail, or drop off your absentee ballot application as soon as possible at your local Board of Elections. As Election Day draws close, to ensure your absentee ballot is received by the Board of Elections on time, it is recommended to use a drop-off site rather than the mail. Visit the Macon-Bibb Board of Elections, Georgia My Voter Page, or your municipal Board of Elections page to determine your nearest official absentee ballot drop-off sites.

  • Voting in Person? If you vote in person early, Macon-Bibb registered voters can choose from the designated locations. Check the Macon-Bibb Elections Schedule and Early Voting Locations.

  • If you vote in person on the election day, you must go to your designated voter poll. Election Day polling places have regular hours, generally between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Check your poll before going, either at the Georgia My Voter Page or your municipal Board of Elections page; do not rely on the voter registration card you may have received many months or years ago, as locations and hours can change closer to elections.

Subscribe to WesEvents for Shuttles & Events!

Each year, we host multiple voter registration drives and events to encourage student participation in civic engagement; annually, Wesleyan College hosts events to celebrate!

Traditional Wesleyan Events:

  • Constitution Day, September 17: Trivia & gift card Raffle (trivia form sent via email), Preamble Scramble activity sheet in the dining hall.

  • National Voter Registration Day, September 17: Voter Registration Drive & Information Table in OSP Lobby.

Presidential Election - Important Dates:
  • 2024 Debates Schedule, here.

  • Nov 5, 2024: Election Day. Polls open on a Tuesday in early November, though early voting and mail-in ballot initiatives will mean many Americans will have already voted. Counting ballots will go on for weeks in some states.

  • Jan 6, 2025: Results certification. Life happens, so please make a plan to vote early!  Once all votes are counted, the results must be certified by Congress. Normally a pro-forma event, in 2021 Mr Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol building to stop the certification. He is on trial for his alleged role in the attack.

  • Jan 20, 2025: Inauguration. The new president will be sworn into office on the steps of the Capitol building in Washington, DC.

Wesleyan College has renewed the President’s Commitment to “All In” [https://allintovote.org/], a campus-based initiative to encourage students to vote. The intent is to facilitate conversations about the political process, elections, issues, and candidates. We want students to engage across the political spectrum continually.

Please contact the Student Affairs Program Coordinator at saffairs@wesleyancollege.edu if you have any questions about voting!
